Weather & Shipping Holds

Cold-weather shipping (Nov–Mar)

Tropical houseplants suffer real damage when exposed to cold. From November through March we monitor the forecast for both your delivery ZIP and every transit hub on the route.

  • Below 45°F (7°C) average daytime forecast at your destination: a Winter Protection Fee is added to your order automatically at checkout. It covers a 72-hour heat pack and insulated lining around the root zone, and unlocks our 30-Day Plant Guarantee against cold-related arrival damage.
  • Below 25°F (-4°C) on any leg of the route: we hold the order and ship the next safe window — usually within 3–7 days. You will get an email each time the hold extends.
  • Monday through Wednesday only: in winter we ship early-week so nothing sits in an unheated warehouse over the weekend.

Hot-weather shipping (Jun–Sep)

Heat is a quieter killer than cold but just as damaging. Above 90°F (32°C) in transit we make adjustments.

  • Monday through Wednesday only, to avoid weekend layovers in hot trucks.
  • Hold & ship safely if your area is forecast above 95°F for the full transit window.
  • Insulated liners on routes through the desert Southwest in peak summer.

What you can do

  • Be home for delivery — or have a porch that is not in direct sun or freezing wind. A plant left on the doorstep for 6 hours in extreme weather will arrive worse than one held an extra day.
  • Use a delivery hold note at checkout if you are traveling.
  • Open the box on arrival — even if you are “rescuing” it from the cold, getting it out of the dark and unwrapping the leaves matters in the first 30 minutes.

FAQ

My order is on hold — when will it ship?

We ship the next safe window for your route, usually within 3–7 days. You will get a tracking email the moment it leaves us.

Can I override the hold?

Yes — email us at [email protected] and we will release the order. Note: our 30-Day Plant Guarantee does not cover cold or heat damage on overrides.

What is the Winter Protection Fee?

It is a small mandatory fee we add automatically when your delivery area is forecast below 45°F during the shipping window. It pays for the 72-hour heat pack and insulated lining that keep your plant alive in transit. You will see it as a separate line in your cart and order summary before you check out — there is no surprise charge after the fact, and you do not opt in or out. If the route warms up before we ship, we drop the fee.

My plant arrived cold or wilted. What do I do?

Unbox it, take photos within 48 hours, and email us. As long as the order shipped with Winter Protection (auto-applied or out-of-season), our 30-Day Plant Guarantee covers it.
